James Brown is an award-winning commercials director & cinematographer.

As a commercials director James has established lasting creative relationships with a portfolio of brands that includes Playstation, Nike, adidas, Microsoft, Toyota, Lexus, Reebok, Audi, BMW, MasterCard, McDonalds, Coca Cola, Under Armour, Guinness, Rolling Rock, Heineken, RayBan, H.P., Samsung and many other leading brands. James led a series of memorable international campaigns, crafting a body of award-winning spots. In all he has shot more than a hundred commercials.  

James Brown brings to his cinematography a keen eye for cinematic lighting, combined with an understanding of character performances and how to tell a story with his camera, due to his directing background.

He enjoys finding a unique visual style for each film and collaborating with directors in different genres.

In 2017 he shot WHEN IT RINGS, a psychological horror feature.

In 2018 he shot A DANCE STORY, a coming of age feature about passion for street dance.

In 2019 he shot THE FAMILY TREE, a controversial award-winning feature, which centers around a love-triangle drama set in Panama.

In 2020 he disappeared up the snowy mountains of Southern California to shoot the indie feature STRAY DOGS, a dark thriller with mystical elements, distributed by Gravitas Ventures.

In 2021 he shot the UK leg of TALES FROM LOCKDOWN, a feature with Greta Scacchi & Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfuss, shot on phones and webcams.

James’s work has been recognized by the U.N., the Guggenheim, the Webbys and at Cannes with six Lions, as well as by a string of other festivals
